SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Monmouth University baseball team fell to Seton Hall, 4-2, at Owen T Carroll Field on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Hawks, who dropped two consecutive games for the first time since March 26th, fall to 24-15 on the season while the Pirates improve to 19-19.
Down by four runs, the Hawks threatened in the ninth as Ryan Terry (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) lead off with a double and came around to score on senior classmate Nick Pulsonetti's (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) double. Pulsonetti moved to third on Cal Costanzo's (Edison, N.J./Edison) single and came around to score on Anthony Lawrence's (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) fielder's choice groundout. Rookie Jon Guida (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) continued the rally with a two-out single, and both Lawrence and Guida moved into scoring position on a SHU wild pitch. Matt McEndy (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) connected on a pitch that headed towards the right-center field gap that was snagged by Will Walsh to secure the victory for Seton Hall.
The Pirates scored single runs in the second and third innings on a pair of RBI base hits from Ryan Sullivan. Frank Esposito pushed the Pirates lead to 4-0 in the fifth on a two-run double down the left field line.
Sophomore starter Chris Perret (Morris Plains, N.J./Morris Catholic) is saddled his first loss of the season, allowing four runs in five innings of work. Nick McNamara (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and Joe Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Frank Morris earned the win for SHU, his first of the season, allowing one hit in 5.0 innings.
Monmouth will resume Northeast Conference play this weekend as it opens up a four-game set with rival Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, April 29th at 3:00 p.m. in Teaneck.
