BASEBALL TOPS PRINCETON FOR EIGHTH-STRAIGHT WIN

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Junior Chris Perret (Morris Plains, N.J./Morris Catholic) earned his second victory of the season en route to the Monmouth University baseball team's eighth-straight win, downing Princeton, 5-1, Thursday afternoon. The Hawks, who have taken nine straight from the Tigers, improve to 22-13 while Princeton falls to 15-17. 

Freshman Tim Bickford (Whitehouse, N.J./Immaculata) started the third inning by reaching on an error and moved to second on the overthrow.  Classmate Jon Guida (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) singled, moving Bickford to third, and Josh Boyd (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central) followed with a RBI single, chasing in Bickford. 
Two-batters later with runners on second and third, Princeton's reliever Michael Fagan allowed a pitch to get away, plating Guida, giving MU a 2-0 lead.

Princeton got its lone run in the top of the fourth on a RBI-single down the left field line by Alex Flinc, cutting the Hawks' lead to 2-1.

Senior Nick Pulsonetti's (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) RBI-single, scoring Ed Martin (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan [Broodale CC]) who earned a free pass, to start the fifth.  With the bases loaded, Bickford earned a walk, brining in Terry who was plunked by a pitch, to extend the Blue and White's lead to 4-1.

Boyd, who walked to lead off the sixth, crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a 5-1 advantage.

Perret struck out four batters in 6.0 innings, while Nick McNamara (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville), Matt Frazier (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park), and Andrew McGee (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) combined for three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and a pair of walks, while fanning one.

Fagan is saddled with the loss for Princeton, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in 2.0 innings. 

Monmouth will play host to Iona tomorrow, April 22nd, at 1 p.m. for a non-conference doubleheader.
