PIECZYNSKI AND O'DWYER NAMED TO ALL-REGION TEAMS

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Junior Michelle Pieczynski (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and sophomore Patricia O'Dwyer (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto Beaufort) were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region Team, announced Thursday afternoon.  Pieczynski became the first Hawk to be named to the First Team All-Mid Atlantic, while O'Dwyer was added to the second squad which marked the third consecutive season a member of the MU field hockey team was tabbed All-Region.

"It is a tremendous accomplishment for both Michelle and Trish along with our team," said fifth-year head coach Carli Figlio. "It shows how far we have grown as a program and it is a direct result from the dedication of players like Michelle and Trish."

"Michelle is a superb player for us," added Figlio.  "It is a great achievement for her to be the first player in our program history to be named to the first team.  I am very excited that she was rewarded for her efforts on the field."

Pieczynski, who was tabbed to the All-Mid Atlantic Second Team in 2010, celebrated a career season in the Blue and White.  The First Team All-Northeast Conference selection became MU's all-time leading scorer and point leader in 2011 after posting career highs in goals (19) and assists (6).  The junior, who entered the season with 22 career tallies, now has 41 markers, passing Gina Chico (1999-2002) and Kellie Nurko's (1999-2002) total of 36.  Adding 12 career helpers, the Pennsylvania native has 94 points through her first three years, passing Chico's record of 83 (36 g, 11 a) that stood atop of the leaderboard the past nine years.  Pieczynski recorded six game winners for the Hawks who posted 15 wins for the second straight season.

"Trish made such a major impact this season," Figlio explained.  "She truly was a vital part to our team's success and it was great to see her become a great leader as the season went on."
O'Dwyer, also a First Team All-NEC selection, finished second on the team in points with 40.

The forward scored 16 goals, while adding eight helpers in her first season in the Blue and White.  The sophomore registered five multi-goal games, including her first career hat trick in the regular season finale at Robert Morris.  O'Dwyer scored the game-winning goal for MU in the NEC Tournament semifinal contest against Quinnipiac and added a marker in the title game against Rider to land herself on the All-Tournament team.

Monmouth, which reached the NEC Championship game for the third-straight year, finished the season with a 15-6 record and a 6-1 mark in league play.
