SOMERSET, N.J. - For the fourth straight week, the Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor remains in the hands of a Monmouth Hawk as sophomore Patricia O'Dwyer (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto Beaufort) earned her first honor, league officials announced Monday. O'Dwyer registered five points over the weekend on two goals and an assist in the Hawks' two victories.
Junior Nicole Manziano (Monroe, N.J./Monroe) earned the weekly award three weeks ago followed by Michelle Pieczynski (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), who earned the honor two consecutive weeks.
"The last few weeks, Trish has been such a vital part to our team," said head coach Carli Figlio. "Her work ethic and passion has been extremely impressive."
O'Dwyer played a part in three of the four goals Monmouth scored in its victories over Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart last weekend, which pushed its win streak to six games. The Ireland native staked Monmouth to a 2-0 lead in Friday's 3-2 victory over the Bobcats by finding the back of the cage twice in the game's first 11:55. Just 33 seconds into the contest, O'Dwyer redirected a pass from Ashley McPeek (Hazlet, N.J./St. John Vianney) passed the QU keeper. Only minutes later, she pounced on a loose ball and tucked it inside the left post for the 2-0 lead. The sophomore sparked Monmouth's lone goal in a 1-0 shutout of the Pioneers two days later. She sent the ball across the goal mouth to Pieczynski who tipped it in for what proved to be the game-winning tally in the 20th minute.
Monmouth will host in-state rival Rider University at 4 p.m. this Thursday at 4 p.m. on So Sweet A Cat Field with the winner taking over sole possession of first place in the NEC.
