WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University placed nine players on 2010 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) All-State teams, as announced by the organization this week. Monmouth, which qualified for its fourth straight Northeast Conference Tournament in 2010, had a trio of Hawks, including
Bobby Dombrowski,
Nick Meyers and
Jamie Rosenkranz named first-team All-State, while
Kyle Breese and
Ryan Terry earned second team honors. In addition, the Hawks landed four freshmen on the NJCBA All-Rookie squad.
Dombrowski was named to his second straight NJCBA First-Team, as the senior started 47 games for the Hawks, and sported a career-best .331 average, including a .355 mark in league games. Dombrowski, who threw out 12 would-be base stealers on the year, also added 55 hits, which included six doubles and seven home runs, while driving in 39 runs.
Starting pitcher Meyers led the Monmouth pitching staff with 12 starts, posting a 6-3 record and a 3.93 ERA, in 75.2 innings of work on the year. The left-hander also struck out a team-high 51 batters and held opposing hitters to a .261 batting average.
Rosenkranz, the Hawks' everyday shortstop, earned his second appearance in the NJCBA All-State selections, as the sophomore was named to the 2009 NJCBA All-Rookie squad. Rosenkranz, a first-team selection this season, ranked second on the squad with a .346 batting average, while collecting 56 hits, including seven home runs.
Terry makes his third straight appearance on the NJCBA postseason award list, after being named to the First-Team last season, and the 2008 NJCBA Rookie of the Year. The junior started all 49 games for the Blue and White, while registering a .337 average, and leading the Hawks in hits (66), doubles (20), home runs (nine), and total bases (117). During the season, Terry also led the Hawks in slugging percentage (.597) and stolen bases (15), and hit .389 in league games.
Breese made 11 starts this season, tossing 69.2 innings, en route to a 3-4 record and a 4.91 ERA. The senior recorded three complete games, including a 5-2 victory against Central Connecticut State when he allowed two runs, struck out six, and did not walk a batter, and ended his career with a full slate in the NEC Tournament, posting a career-high 10 strikeouts against top-seeded Sacred Heart.
Four Hawks, including three pitchers were placed on the New Jersey All-Rookie squad for Monmouth, as
Danny Avella,
Dan Smith,
Pat Light, and
Neil Harm all earned the recognition.
The lone rookie infielder, Avella, the Hawks' third baseman, started 45 games for the Hawks, collecting 34 hits, including 10 doubles and five round trippers.
Smith appeared in 17 contests during his first season with the Hawks, and started nine games. The left-hander earned two wins and recorded two saves as well. The freshman tossed a complete game, one-hitter against Temple on March 23, surrendering just one run in the victory.
Light appeared in 11 games for the Blue and White, earning 10 starts during his first season at Monmouth. The righty picked up a pair of wins and a save in 57.1 innings of work, while striking out 33 hitters.
Harm saw action in 23 games for Monmouth out of the bullpen, going 3-1 and saving three games in 23.1 innings.
Monmouth's 2010 season came to a close after a pair of losses in the conference postseason, over the weekend in Bridgewater, N.J. The Hawks, who finished the campaign at 22-27 overall, qualified for its league-best 14th Northeast Conference Tournament this year.
