The second-seeded Monmouth University softball team takes part in the 2010 Northeast Conference Tournament this weekend at FDU's Softball Field in Hackensack, facing #3 Quinnipiac in the first round. The tournament, which will be hosted by top-seeded Long Island University, features the Hawks and Blackbirds, as well as #3 Quinnipiac and #4 Robert Morris. Last season, LIU had its three-year NEC Tournament Championship run brought to an end by Sacred Heart. Since 2000, the Blackbirds have won six NEC Tournament Titles.

Monmouth has never won the Northeast Conference Tournament Title in its softball history, and its lone league regular season championship came back in 1999. The Hawks are 25-33 all-time in the conference tournament dating back to 1989. MU has a combined 8-19 all-time record against this year's tournament field (LIU, Quinnipiac and Robert Morris) in the postseason. Monmouth is 4-6 against RMU all-time in the NEC Tournament, 4-11 against the Blackbirds and 0-2 against Quinnipiac.
