BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Powered by junior
Ryan Terry's two home runs and five RBI, the Monmouth University baseball team defeated Long Island University 7-5 in Northeast Conference action on Sunday afternoon, at LIU Field. With the victory, the Hawks won three-of-four in the league series, and improve their overall record to 16-18, and stand 10-10 in conference play.
Terry, who upped his team-leading home run total to seven, went 3-for-5 with five driven in and a pair of homers and a triple, while
Jamie Rosenkranz went 4-for-5 and
Bobby Dombrowski added two hits.
Terry's two-out, two-run home run in the third inning gave Monmouth a 2-0 lead. Terry, who connected on his team-leading sixth homer, drove in
Cal Costanzo in front of him, who had reached on an error to start the frame.
The Blackbirds cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third when Gerard Tingos' groundout plated Greg DeSantis, who led off the inning with a single.
Monmouth increased its advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh when Terry laced a one-out triple to center, and scored in the next at-bat when an error was committed on Rosenkranz's appearance. The Hawks then went ahead 4-1 on
Nick Pulsonetti's RBI single to left center.

Neil Harm entered for the Hawks. Albert Faz then followed with a sacrifice fly to pull the Blackbirds within 4-2, and DeSantis' RBI single through the right side made the tally 4-3.
The Blue and White expanded its lead to 7-3 in the top of the eighth when Terry drilled his second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot to left center.
The Blackbirds mounted a rally in the bottom of the eighth, notching a pair of runs off Harm, as Tyler Jones homered and Derek Stupski drove in Drew Walsh with a single.
Nick McNamara, who earned the win in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, pitched around a one-out walk, to retire the side in the ninth and pick up the save, his first of the season.
Dan Smith, who got out of each of the first three innings with double plays, allowed one run on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work in his sixth career start.
Matt Goitz (1-1) followed with a pair of scoreless frames, and allowed two runs on two hits, with three strikeouts and three walks in 3.1 innings, to earn the victory.
Monmouth returns to action on Tuesday when the Hawks host Seton Hall at 3:30 p.m.
