WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University men's tennis team defeated Hofstra, 6-1 on Sunday at home.
MU swept the Pride in singles competition, dropping only one set on the afternoon. Laurence Heads (Stockton-on-Tees, England /Repton School) defeated Jon Disley at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Ian Terpilowski (Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia /Braemar College) topped Ben Thompson-Star at second singles, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (ret.).
David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor, N.J. /Pinelands) defeated Josh Levinson at third singles, 7-5, 6-2, Harvey Bhalla (Buckinghamshire, England /Dr. Challoner's Grammar School) bested Johan Villa at #4, 6-0, 6-0 and Ben Dashiell (Atlanta, Ga. /Holy Spirit Prep) claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles over Pedro Gimenez.
The Hawks also swept the doubles point as the duo of Heads/Terpilowski won at first singles, Sherwood/Bhalla won at #2 and Dashiell/Grimbly claimed the win at third doubles.
Monmouth returns to action, and also opens league play, on Saturday when it visits Quinnipiac for a 2:00 pm match with the Bobcats.
