WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. ? Monmouth University sophomore Emily deLong (Rothschild, Wisc./DC Everest) has been named the Akadema/NEC Co-Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday afternoon. deLong, who shares this week's award with Robert Morris senior centerfielder Brooke Panepinto, claims her second straight conference weekly player of the week honor.
In helping Monmouth to a 3-1 start in NEC play, deLong hit .421 (8-for-19) with six runs scored, a double, a triple and a home run. The catcher/outfielder drove in five runs while slugging .737 and going a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases - a category in which she ranks second in the league in (10).
Each of deLong's extra base hits came during conference play, while she also had a hand in six of MU's nine runs in a 9-6 win over Saint Francis University on Sunday. She drilled a three-run dinger in the fourth to extend the Hawks' lead and help secure the victory over the Red Flash in the first game of the doubleheader.
For the season, deLong ranks first in the league in batting average (.456), triples (6), home runs (6) and total bases (60), while also ranking second on the circuit with 23 runs scored and 21 RBI.
