NEW YORK- Monmouth University's men's track & field team picked up another IC4A bid Friday Night at the NY Armory in the team's final meet before heading to the Northeast Conference Indoor Championships next weekend.
The Hawks had a pair of second place finishes out of the throwing unit, with Larry Lundy (Friendsville, Pa./Montrose Area) weight throw of leading the way with his toss of 57' 9 ?”. Shawn Sabo (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) will join Lundy at the IC4A Division I Championships after qualifying with his third place throw of 57' 1/4” in the same event.
The other second place performance came from sophomore Tom Ciccoli (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) who was second in the shot put with a distance of 54' 9 ?”, with Lundy's mark of 53' 6 ?” earning fourth and Vin Elardo's (Forked River, N.J./Lacey) throw of 52' ?” claiming sixth.
Freshman Chris Rutherford (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) earned a pair of top-six performances, finishing fourth in the 500m (1:04.33) and sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.29).
Yasser Barr (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South), David Balzer (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph), Eric Schaffer (Wall, N.J./Wall) and Vin Improta (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech) were third in the 4x800 relay that crossed the finish with a time of 8:01.52.
Julio Rodriguez (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) finished ninth in the high jump, clearing 6' 4 ?”. Schaffer was also 12th in the mile with his time of 4:26.92. Chris Taiwo (Budd Lake, N.J./Mt. Olive) was ninth in the triple jump with his distance of 45' 7”.
Running unattached was MU senior Chris Vuono (Wall, N.J./CBA), who claimed first in the 400m with his time of 28.79.
Monmouth's men's team will look to capture the Northeast Conference Indoor Championship for the fourth time at next weekend's 2009 NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships held in Landover, Md.
