HAWKS BLANKED BY KNIGHTS 2-0 IN GAME TWO

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. ? Fairleigh Dickinson earned a 2-0 win over Monmouth in game two of a Northeast Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, as starting pitcher John O'Hara worked a complete game shutout for the Knights.

O'Hara, the league-leader in strikeouts, recorded seven punchouts, while allowing three hits in seven innings of work, while earning the victory.

The loss drops Monmouth's overall record to 32-13 and 17-5 in the NEC, while FDU improved to 13-35, 8-13.

The Knights opened the scoring in the third frame of game two, when three straight two-out hits resulted in two runs. After Jeff Vincent and Brett Lazar each singled, Zach Sand delivered a two-out, two-run double to the leftfield gap.

The Hawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but pinch hitter Rick Niederhaus struck out swinging to end the rally.

Five of FDU's nine hits came with two outs in the contest, as senior Matt Marc-Aurele (3-4) was saddled with the complete game loss for the Hawks.

Monmouth and Fairleigh Dickinson will play a Northeast Conference doubleheader on Sunday, starting at noon. Game one will be seven innings, while the second game of the twinbill will be a nine-inning contest.
