NEW BRITAIN, CONN. ? The Monmouth University baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Central Connecticut State in Northeast Conference play on Sunday afternoon. Monmouth, which had its 11-game win streak stopped with the defeat, stands at 28-10 overall and 14-2 in league play.

CCSU got on the scoreboard first, tallying a lone run in the second inning off Monmouth starter Brett Brach. After the Blue Devils loaded the bases with no outs, a sacrifice fly plated the only run, as Brach induced a ground-out double play to end the threat.

Monmouth knotted the score in the fifth inning when Nick Pulsonetti led off with a single and advanced to third on Chris Collazo's single. With runners on the corners, Ryan Terry grounded into a double play, which allowed Pulsonetti to score, tying the game at 1-1.

CCSU plated the go-ahead run in the sixth, as an RBI single gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 edge.

The Hawks loaded the bases in the ninth inning with one out, after Tim McEndy delivered a pinch hit single, Pulsonetti doubled and Collazo drew an intentional pass. The rally ended when Terry grounded into his second double play of the game.

Brach was saddled with the loss for the Hawks, dropping his mark to 3-2 on the year. The sophomore worked 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, with three strikeouts. Classmate Nick Vallillo, who got the final two outs of the sixth inning, worked 2.2 frames, allowing just one hit.

Pulsonetti's two hits led the Hawks' eight-hit attack.

Monmouth returns to action on Wednesday, April 30, when the Hawks travel to Rutgers for a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
