GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Monmouth University baseball collected two hits in a 6-0 loss at East Carolina, on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks, now 1-2 on the year, received a double from
Bobby Dombrowski and a single from
Andy Meyers in the setback.
Senior
Matt Marc-Aurele was saddled with the loss in his first start of the year, his first start since the 2006 season, allowing four runs on six hits in three innings of work.
The Pirates (3-4) posted two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead, and recorded runs in the fifth and sixth frames, en route to the win.
Matt Frazier worked three innings as well, surrendering two runs on four hits.
Tim Dexter and
Nick Vallillo combined for the final two shutout innings, allowing no hits.
East Carolina junior Justin Bristow threw a complete game two-hit shutout for the Pirates. Bristow (1-0), who faced 31 batters, walked one, hit a pair and fanned six in his first career complete game.
Monmouth returns to action on February 7, when the Hawks open a three-game series at UCF. Monmouth took two-of-three in the series from the Golden Knights last season.
