VILLANOVA, Pa. ? Monmouth men's tennis dropped their first dual match of the young season to Villanova, 6-1, this past Sunday in Villanova, Pa. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 0-1 in dual matches in the fall season having one prior tournament at UConn rained out and opening the season with another invitational in Queens, N.Y.
Freshman Laurance Heads (Stockton-on-Tees, England/Repton School) posted the only victory for the Blue and White on the day at sixth singles beating the Wildcats' Mike Taylor 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Hawks took both first singles and second singles to third sets, but couldn't prevail as senior Benjamin Evenden (Cresco, Pa./Ridgewood, N.J.) lost 0-6, 6-2, 3-6 at first singles and junior Corey Forrest (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic) dropped second singles 7-5, 2-6, 3-6.
Evenden and sophomore Ian Terpilowski (Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia/Braemar) helped the Hawks mount a rally winning first doubles over Villanova's Maher and Leeser 8-4, but the Blue and White dropped second and third singles 8-2 and 8-4 to drop the team doubles point.
Heads and Tim McLane (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Seven Bridges Prep) lead the Hawks so far this fall with 1-0 and 3-0 singles records while the duo of McLane and Jason Letchko (Newton, N.J./Newton) lead the Blue and White in doubles with a 2-1 overall record.
The Hawks will look to take their first home match this season when they host Drexel on Wednesday, October 8th at 3:00 pm at Firemen's Field in Ocean, N.J.
