WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Former Monmouth University women's soccer standout Christie Rampone was recently named the U.S. National Women's Team captain by head coach Pia Sundhage. Rampone, who is the most capped player on the current roster, is the ninth official captain of the U.S. National Team.
Rampone, who starred at Monmouth from 1993-96, was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Year in both 1995 and 1996, while leading the Hawks to back-to-back NEC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Rampone still holds all of Monmouth's scoring records, including career points (212), goals (79) and assists (54), and was inducted into Monmouth's Sports Hall of Fame this past fall.
The United States' game versus Canada, on January 16th, was Rampone's first match with the arm band.
