WEST CHESTER, Pa. ? The Monmouth University field hockey team fell to host West Chester 9-0 in the first game of the Vonnie Gros Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks, who fall to 0-3, surrendered four first half goals and were never able to get anything going against West Chester. Three Golden Rams tallied two goals apiece, as Lauren DuBois, Shelly Brooks and Amanda Wynkoop each tallied a pair of goals in the game. Kim Hanshue, Sara Conrad and Desiree Walker also scored a goal apiece, with DuBois and Hanshue each collecting an assist each.
West Chester outshot Monmouth 21-11 and held a 6-3 advantage on penalty corner opportunities. Melissa Katz (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made a team-high five saves in net in the game.
Freshman Morganne Firmstone (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) fired two shots on goal for Monmouth, and sophomore Kelly Crist (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) led the squad with four shots on goal.
Monmouth returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 9 when they take on Villanova at 12:00 p.m. in the second day of the Vonnie Gros Classic at West Chester.
