TISIFENEE TAYLOR AND JOE COMPAGNI HONORED BY THE USTFCCCA

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University senior Tisifenee Taylor (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) and head coach Joe Compagni were named Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year and Mid-Atlantic Men's Coach of the Year, respectively, by the U.S. Track and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday evening.

 

Taylor qualified for the NCAA Championships after finishing second in the long jump at the East Regionals, the only time during the year in which she didn't take first in the event.  The senior earned Most Valuable Performer at the NEC Championships after winning the long jump, 100 meters an 4x100 relay.  Taylor's jump of 21'6” in the long jump won the ECAC Division I Title.

 

Taylor will compete in the long jump on Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  She joins former Hawk Bobby Smith as the only Hawks to earn Regional Field Athlete of the Year awards (2006).

 

Compagni was named Mid-Atlantic Men's Coach of the Year after guiding the Hawks to their to its fourth straight Northeast Conference men's title.  Compagni earned NEC Coach of the Year for the seventh overall time.  Under Compagni's supervision junior Ed Skowronski qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw, while eight Hawks earned All-East Honors at the IC4A Championships.
