The Monmouth University softball team left Florida with a 6-4 record after defeating Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne 14-2 and falling to Georgetown 2-1 at the last day of the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla.
Danielle Ellement (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) pitched a complete-game to earn the win against IPFW. Nichole Alvarez (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) had two hits and three runs driven in while Jess Nicola (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) added three RBI's as well. In all, nine different Hawks had hits and eight scored runs in the victory.
Angela Rand (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) pitched well but ended up on the losing side in MU's loss to the Hoyas. Heather Gordon (Hatboro, Pa./Mount St. Joseph's) drilled a solo home run for Monmouth's lone run in the game, her first of the season.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, March 16 when they travel to Georgetown, Delaware for the Mizuno Bash at the Beach. MU opens the tournament when they take on Providence and Niagara on Friday afternoon.
