NEW YORK, N.Y.- At a meet with over 1,500 competitors, Monmouth's women's distance medley relay team ran the second fastest time in school history in the first day of the New Balance Collegiate Invite on Friday night.
The DMR team of Jessica Jones (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Dallas), freshman Brittany Gibbs (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge), Asha Arneth (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Malia Lyles (Collingswood, N.J./Cherokee) took ninth place with a time of 12:29.10, which is the second fastest time in school history. In the pole vault junior Nikki Zwartjes (Burlington, N.J./Burlington), matched her school record with a vault of 11'3 ?”, coming in eighth. Freshman Rachel Cassata (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Somers School) tied her own Monmouth freshman record in the same event, clearing a height of 10'10”.
Sophomore Latasha Leake (Wrightstown, N.J./North Burlington) finished third in the high jump, with a leap of 5'2 ?” while Chris Vuono (Wall, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed seventh in the 500m, crossing the finish line in 1:04.88.
Monmouth will be back to compete against the 75 other collegiate teams at the Invite on Saturday. Selected athletes will also compete at East Stroudsburg.
