WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University field hockey team got two goals from freshman
Kelly Crist (Belford, N.J./Middletown North), both assisted by senior
Maeve Hagen (Hummelstown, Pa. /Hershey), in their 5-3 win over St. Francis (Pa.) Sunday afternoon in Loretto, Pa.
The win concludes the 2006 field hockey season for the Monmouth Hawks, who end the year 6-12 overall and 4-4 in the Northeast Conference.
"It was great to have our seniors win in their last game, all three of them played great," said head coach
Monica Morgan Levy. The game marked the final contest in Monmouth Blue and White for Hagen,
 Bridget Green (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) and
Annie Welsh (Willow Grove, Pa./Willow Grove).
The teams alternated scoring the first four goals of the game. Monmouth began the game by scoring quickly as Greene took a pass from
Annie LoPresti (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) and scored to put the Hawks on top 1-0 5:43 into the game.
The Red Flash responded when Belen Albanes scored an unassisted goal at the 14:28 mark to knot the game at 1-1.
Monmouth then took the lead back when junior
Hollee Hooven (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) scored an unassisted goal of her own off a Red Flash player's foot to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead at the 20:19 mark.
St. Francis (Pa.) tied the game again when Kati Kenyon scored off an assist from Albanes at the 26:36 mark, and the game went into intermission tied at 2-2. Monmouth scored the next three goals of the game, the first and third scored by Crist and assisted by Hagen, with the middle goal coming unassisted off the stick of LoPresti.
Albanes scored a late goal off a feed from Kenyon, but by then the game was decided and the Hawks had a 5-3 win.
