WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University field hockey team defeated Robert Morris 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Monmouth Field Hockey Complex. The win runs the Hawks' winning streak to three games, all in the Northeast Conference, and puts them over the .500 in the league at 3-2. Monmouth is 5-9 on the season.
The game marked Senior Day for Monmouth, as seniors
Bridget Green (Atco, N.J./Hammonton),
Annie Welsh (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) and
Maeve Hagen (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) were honored during the pre-game announcements. Although it was Senior Day, a junior stole the show as
Annie LoPresti (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) tallied both MU goals, one in each half.
The first tally came in the 25th minute when LoPresti took a feed in front of the net from
Courtney Stetson (Woodbury, N.J./West Deptford) and put it past Colonial goalie Kate Dunlap to give the Hawks' a 1-0 lead.
Her second goal came when
Enza Mazza (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) crossed the ball towards the net and she found the back of the cage to give Monmouth the ultimate 2-0 advantage.
Chelsea Farley (Sykesville, Md./Centennial) made one save in goal to record the shutout.
The Hawks' outshot the Colonials 16-3 in the game, and held a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Monmouth has now won three NEC games in a row by a score of 10-2. They return to action when they travel to Lafayette Wednesday, October 18 for a 7 p.m. match with the Leopards.
