WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth softball freshman Carah Sumpter was named the CAA Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Sumpter earns her first career CAA honor after leading the Hawks to a 3-0 weekend sweep over Towson,  the team's first conference sweep of the season.

She turned in an outstanding performance, tallying four hits, including a home run, and driving in two RBIs. Sumpter made an impact all around on Saturday, throwing a complete game while giving up just one earned run. She also added to her offensive production with a home run, her fourth of the season. 

Sumpter was also key in Sunday's win, driving in an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to give Monmouth a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. 

Sumpter and the Hawks return to action Wednesday for their non-conference finale at Marist, with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
