Monmouth Edged 2–1 by Charleston in Saturday Matchup

Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C.- Monmouth softball fell 2–1 to Charleston for the second straight day Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field, taking an early 1–0 lead.

Charleston doubled its lead in the bottom of the third inning, going up 2–0 after Monmouth committed an error.

Monmouth scored its first and only run in the fifth inning when Kaitlynn Place drew a walk with the bases loaded, bringing Liv Smith home. Despite having the bases loaded, the Hawks were unable to score the equalizer.


NOTES AND NUMBERS 
  • The Hawks fall 0-2 in CAA play
  • Carah Sumpter earned the start in the circle for the Hawks, allowing just one earned run
  • Sumpter finished with 90 total pitches, throwing 54 strikes 
  • Bri Lawson tied a team-high of two hits 
  • Both teams finished with four hits each
