UNION, NJ . Monmouth softball suffered a 6–2 loss to Hofstra in the opening game of the series on Friday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Field at Kean University. 

The Pride opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a home run to take a 1–0 lead.

Dominique Lopez tallied a triple in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at one, but that would be the last time the Hawks were even with Hofstra.

Hofstra responded by scoring the next four runs to take control of the game and build a 6–1 lead heading into the later innings.

The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jayla Cadena came around to score on a Lopez groundout, but the late push was not enough as Hofstra held on for the 6–2 victory.
