RICHMOND, VA — The Coastal Athletic Association announced its weekly field hockey winners Monday with Monmouth junior goalkeeper
Charlie Bowman and freshman defender
Maja Schröder earning Defensive and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
It is the second selection of their careers for both Bowman and Schroder.
Bowman was named to her second career CAA Defensive Player of the Week nod, the last coming September of last season. The Hillsborough, Northern Ireland native had a prolific week, as she totaled her third combined shutout and fourth of the season after making three saves in three quarters of action in a 5-0 win over William & Mary Friday, which clinched her team their 13th straight playoff spot. She followed that performance by standing strong against No. 19 University of Virginia, making a season-high 12 saves on 16 shots on goal (season-most) in a tight, 4-3 loss Sunday.
Schröder collects her second CAA Rookie of the Week selection this season, her first coming Sept. 14. She continued an impressive first season by tying a career-high in points against William & Mary Friday.
Schröder helped highlight a 5-0 win over the Tribe by tallying the game-winning goal in the second quarter, getting behind the William & Mary defense and burying her second goal of the year. She then added an assist on the insert of a penalty corner that helped build on a comfortable CAA rout.
Monmouth returns to So Sweet A Cat Field for one final time Friday, hosting Fairfield at 4 p.m.
