WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – No. 18 Monmouth field hockey secured a statement win on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 17 Rutgers at the Brauer Track and Field Complex. The victory marks the Hawks' third-ever win over a Big Ten opponent and their first win against a ranked team since topping No. 17 Drexel last season.

Monmouth got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the first quarter. Senior Emily Singer opened the scoring in the 8th minute, tapping in a pass from Kelly Bowers. The Hawks doubled their lead moments later when they were awarded a penalty corner, and Lauren Relik capitalized with a close-range finish.

Rutgers appeared to have cut the deficit in the second quarter after being awarded a penalty stroke, but the goal was later disallowed. Monmouth held onto its 2–0 lead heading into halftime.

The Scarlet Knights got on the board just three minutes into the third quarter, as Paulina Niklaus scored in the 32nd minute to make it 2–1. However, Monmouth responded immediately. Sophomore Milla Frye restored the two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute, finding the back of the cage following another penalty corner.

Junior Eulalie Brouwers extended Monmouth's lead to 4–1 in the 46th minute. After a shot by Luisa Schlueter was deflected, Brouwers pounced on the rebound and slotted it home during yet another penalty corner opportunity.

Niklaus added her second goal of the game in the 51st minute to bring Rutgers within two, but the Hawks' defense held firm in the final moments to secure the win.
