NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 19 Monmouth field hockey saw its five-game win streak come to an end Sunday, falling 3-1 to Yale at Johnson Field.
All four goals were scored off penalty corners, with the game tied 1-1 at halftime before the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half.
Yale struck first in the 16th minute when Poppy Beales converted on a corner to put the home side ahead. Monmouth responded six minutes later, as sophomore
Keely Bowers buried a corner chance off assists from Lusia Schluter and
Lauren Relik to even the score at 1-1.
In the second half,Yymre Masee took over for the Bulldogs, scoring in the 36th and 46th minutes—both on corners—to give Yale the 3-1 advantage.
Despite generating chances, the Hawks couldn't find the equalizer. Goalkeeper Charlie Bowman was a bright spot, facing 19 shots and posting a career-high 10 saves in the loss.
