Scotti Collects Two Hits, Place Drives in Run as Monmouth Falls to Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Giana Scotti recorded her seventh multi-hit game of the season and Kaitlynn Place delivered an RBI single to give Monmouth an early lead, but the Hawks dropped a 4-1 decision to Hofstra on Friday afternoon at Bill Edwards Stadium.
 
Monmouth took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Scotti singled and stole second, then came home on Place's base hit up the middle. The junior catcher drove in her fifth RBI of the year, and the Hawks collected four hits on the day while applying pressure in multiple innings.
 
Scotti finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, her ninth of the season. Liv Smith added a single and her 30th hit, a mark that ranks second on the team. Smith is tied for first on Monmouth with 18 hits versus CAA opponents and has an .875 OPS in 19 conference games.
 
In the circle, senior Olivia Lewis went the distance, pitching six solid innings. She allowed just two earned runs on eight hits while throwing 89 pitches. Lewis retired the side in order in both the first and sixth innings and held Hofstra scoreless in four of six frames.
