GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Sophomore pitcher Izzy Bonacci tossed her fifth consecutive complete game, but the Hawks dropped a 4-0 decision to Hofstra in Thursday's Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series opener held at Adelphi University's Ficke Field.

Bonacci was effective throughout the contest, throwing just 60 pitches over six innings and allowing only three earned runs on eight hits without issuing a walk. She forced 10 flyouts and six groundouts while keeping the Pride off the board in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to keep the Hawks within striking distance.

Monmouth was held hitless despite putting runners on base in four different innings. The Hawks worked two walks – one each by Jayla Cadena and Lexi Castaneda – and also advanced runners into scoring position in the second and fifth frames.

The Hawks' defense was clean over the final four innings, led by strong infield play from freshman Gianna Stern at third base. Stern leads non-pitchers with a .977 fielding percentage in 2025 for the Hawks.

Despite Hofstra scoring early runs in the first three innings, Bonacci settled in to retire eight of the final 10 batters she faced, allowing just two baserunners over the final three frames. Both of her strikeouts came in the fourth inning.
