Monmouth Honors Seniors, Battles Delaware in Weekend Finale

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth softball celebrated its Senior Day on Sunday at MU Softball Park, honoring Lexi Castaneda and Isabella Slape pregame, but ultimately fell in a 4-0 setback against CAA leader Delaware.
 
Castaneda reached base twice on the afternoon, once on a single and again on a walk. Liv Smith, the team leader in batting average, went 1-for-3 with a walk, as well. Izzy Bonacci turned in a complete-game effort in the circle, scattering 10 hits and allowing just four unearned runs across 103 pitches while keeping the Hawks in the game. Bonacci closed out her final home start by tossing seven innings with one walk allowed and seven groundball outs.
 
Monmouth worked patient at-bats throughout the afternoon, drawing four walks and had runners on base in five of the seven innings. Gianna Stern delivered the biggest swing of the day, smacking a double to the right-center gap in the seventh inning. Clare Picone also reached twice via walks to continue her strong stretch at the plate.
 
After Delaware pushed across an unearned run in the second inning and three more in the fourth.
