Hawks Fall at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Seton Hall University jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings and claimed an 8-3 win over the Monmouth University baseball team on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Seton Hall scored a run in the first and one in the second to claim the early 2-0 lead. 
 
Monmouth broke through on the scoreboard in the fourth. The Hawks loaded the bases to start the frame and with one out, Aidan Bretschneider hit into a fielders choice. On the play, Simmi Whitehill scored for the visitors.
 
The Pirates responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and pushed their lead to 5-1. Nick Ferri hit his second home run of the day for Seton Hall. 
 
The Hawks got another run back in the seventh as Jake Howlett's pinch-hit single scored Bretschneider. 
 
Seton Hall put three runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh and pushed its lead to 8-2.
 
In the top of the ninth, Nick Lovarco led off with a triple for the Hawks and came around to score on Shane Dux's double. That made the final score in the game, 8-3.

NOTES 
- Seton Hall leads the all-time series with the Hawks, 33-8-1. The Pirates have won two straight games in the match-up. 
- Monmouth is now 5-2 on the year against teams from the state of New Jersey (wins over NJIT, FDU, Saint Peter's, Princeton, Rutgers; losses to Rider and Seton Hall).
- Monmouth had a double steal in the fourth inning. That gives the Hawks 90 steals on the season which moved them past the 2001 squad and into second place on the single-season steals list. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Chris Walsh's steal was his 18th of the season, which ranks second on the team. 
- The Hawks were hit by a pitch five times in the contest. That is tied for the most times the Hawks have been hit by a pitch this season. 
- Tomas Cestero earned the win for Seton Hall as he went 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on one hit while striking out seven. 
- Joey Ciancimino took the loss for the Hawks after giving up two runs on three hits in three innings.
