SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Seton Hall University jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings and claimed an 8-3 win over the Monmouth University baseball team on Wednesday afternoon.

Seton Hall scored a run in the first and one in the second to claim the early 2-0 lead.Â

Monmouth broke through on the scoreboard in the fourth. The Hawks loaded the bases to start the frame and with one out,
Aidan Bretschneider hit into a fielders choice. On the play,
Simmi Whitehill scored for the visitors.

The Pirates responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and pushed their lead to 5-1. Nick Ferri hit his second home run of the day for Seton Hall.Â

The Hawks got another run back in the seventh as
Jake Howlett's pinch-hit single scored Bretschneider.Â

Seton Hall put three runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh and pushed its lead to 8-2.

In the top of the ninth,
Nick Lovarco led off with a triple for the Hawks and came around to score on
Shane Dux's double. That made the final score in the game, 8-3.
