Hawks Fall to Northeastern in Series Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Northeastern University defeated the Monmouth University baseball team 16-5 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Friday afternoon. 
 
The Huskies used a pair of home runs in the first inning to open up a 3-0 lead. 
 
Monmouth got one of those runs back in the bottom of the first as Chris Walsh laced a home run down the left field line. 
 
Northeastern continued to add to its lead with runs in each inning and led 11-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth. 
 
Monmouth put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Wyatt Hunt had an RBI single that scored Chris Andrews and Simmi Whitehill crossed the plate on a double play ball.
 
The Hawks scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh which made the final score 16-5. Kenny Noe scored on a fielders choice before Chris Walsh came home on a balk.

NOTES 
- Northeastern leads the all-time series with the Hawks, 8-1 and has won seven straight. 
- Monmouth is 8-6 on the year at home.
- Monmouth now has 91 steals on the season. The Hawks are just nine steals away from tying the school record for steals in a season (100) set by the 2009 team. 
- Chris Walsh's run in the first inning snapped a 50 inning scoreless streak by Northeastern.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Chris Walsh led the Hawks with two base hits. It was Walsh's 15th multi-hit game of the season. 
- Wyatt Hunt had two base hits and recorded his ninth multi-hit game of the season. 
- Jay Bant's double was his team-leading 15th of the season. 
- Chris Andrews picked up his 14th steal of the season.
- Will Jones earned the win for the Huskies as he went five innings and allowed one run on three hits. 
- Tommy Kent took the loss for the Hawks as he gave up seven runs on six hits in three innings.
