Hawks Fall to Northeastern on Saturday

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Northeastern University used a six run fifth inning to break open a close game and claimed a 10-0 victory over the Monmouth University baseball team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Saturday.
 
The Hawks had the first chance in the game as a Jay Bant single and a Northeastern error put runners on first and third. The Huskies got the final out to get out of the first.
 
Matt Brinker had a two-run double in the top of the second which got the Huskies on the board. 
 
A pair of RBI singles in the third, increased the Northeastern lead to 4-0. 
 
The Hawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but Northeastern got a groundout to end the inning. 
 
Northeastern sent 10 men to the plate in the fifth and scored six times, which made it a 10-0 game. Brinker and Jack Goodman each drove in two runs in the inning. 
 
That 10-0 score proved to be the final in seven innings. 

NOTES 
- Northeastern leads the all-time series with the Hawks, 9-1 and has won eight straight. 
- Monmouth is 8-7 on the year at home.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Chris Walsh's double was his 13th of the season. He ranks second on the team in that category.
- Jay Bant has a hit in back-to-back games and in eight of his last nine games. 
- Walsh has hit in back-to-back games and nine of his last 10 games. 
- Aiven Cabral earned the win after going six innings and surrendering four hits and striking out six.
- Kevin Opanel took the loss for the Hawks after tossing four innings and giving up seven runs.
