LITTLE FALLS, NJ. – NJIT scored first but the Monmouth University baseball team responded with the next seven as the Hawks picked up an 8-3 road win on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory.

NJIT got the scoring started with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.

Monmouth tied the game at 1-1 as
Wyatt Hunt reached on an error and came around to score on
Harry Padden's sac fly.Â

The Hawks took the lead for good in the fifth as
Andrew Schmid drew a leadoff walk and touched the plate on
Jay Bant's sac fly.Â

The was the start of the Hawks scoring in each of the final five innings of the contest.Â

An RBI single from Hunt and a sac fly from
Shane Dux in the sixth inning increased the Monmouth advantage to 4-1.Â

After scoring one in the seventh, the Hawks tacked on two more in the eighth and made it a 7-1 game. Schmid had an RBI double before Bant contributed an RBI single in the frame.

NJIT reached the Hawks pitching staff for two runs in the bottom of the eighth and made it an 7-3 game.

The Hawks struck for one more run in the top of the ninth as
Chris Walsh reached on a single and came around to score on a double steal and an error.Â

Jimmy Wigo picked up a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to close out the 8-3 win for the Hawks.
