Lovarco's Five RBIs Help Hawks Beat Towson

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 10  (13-14, 3-3 CAA)
Towson 6 (9-19, 2-4 CAA)

TOWSON, Md. – Nick Lovarco hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs to lead the Monmouth University baseball team to a 10-6 win over Towson University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday. The Hawks won the CAA road series as they posted their second straight win over the Tigers.

The Hawks wasted little time in getting the offense going in this one. Monmouth sent 10 men to the plate and scored six times before Towson recorded an out. Highlights from the inning included Casey Caufield's RBI triple and massive grand slam from Lovarco to left.

Towson got one back in the bottom of the first. Brian Heckelman's RBI single made it a 6-1 game.

The Hawks went right back to work in the top of the second. RBI doubles from Jay Bant and Lovarco were sandwiched around a Chris Andrews' RBI single. That increased the visitors' advantage to 9-1.

Ryan Mealy settled in after that and retired 11 of the 13 batters he faced in the second through fifth innings.

The Hawks added to their lead as a Wyatt Hunt RBI single made it a 10-1 game.

Towson reached Mealy for two runs in the bottom of the sixth and made it a 10-3 game, however JD Greeley entered and quickly rolled a double play to end the inning.

The Tigers scored two in the seventh and made it a 10-5 game.

Towson scored a run in the ninth and cut the Monmouth lead to 10-6. However, Jimmy Wigo entered the game and got the final two outs to strand two and secure the win for the Hawks.

NOTES
- It was the 11th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Tigers. Monmouth leads the series 7-4, having won seven of the last eight meetings.
- Monmouth moves to 9-2 on the year when it scores 10 or more runs in a contest.
- Casey Caufield had a pair of base knocks and has now reached base safely in 23 straight games.

- Nick Lovarco finished with a season-high five RBIs in the contest. He's the second Hawk to post five or more RBIs in a game this season (Jay Bant-twice).
