Giana Scotti extended her on-base streak to 21 straight games with a home run, but the Monmouth University Softball Team fell to Elon, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Scotti's two-run blast in the third inning was the first of her career and first of the season for the Monmouth offense.
Monmouth recorded eight hits, with Scotti providing the biggest swing of the day. She finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks, while
Kylee McLain and
Lexi Castaneda each added two hits. McLain helped Monmouth add another run in the fifth, driving in
Isabella Slape on a double fly to cut the deficit to 6-3, but Elon's pitching held strong the rest of the way.
Olivia Lewis started in the circle for the Hawks and worked 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out one.
Izzy Bonacci pitched the final 2.1 frames, allowing just two runs on three hits.
