WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University's bats stayed Wednesday, but timely hitting by Saint Peter's proved to be the difference as the Hawks dropped both games of a doubleheader, falling 8-4 in the opener and 4-0 in the second game at MU Softball Park.

In the first game, Monmouth racked up nine hits, with Giana Scotti leading the way with a 2-for-4 performance while Kaitlynn Place and Gianna Stern each drove in a run.

The Peacocks took an early lead with two runs in the first and added three more in the third to make it 5-0. After two more runs by Saint Peter's, Monmouth broke through in the fifth on an error and then scored twice in the sixth. Stern and Place cut the deficit to four after a run-scoring groundout and RBI single.

In the seventh, Monmouth added one more when Miller came across on a sacrifice fly, but Saint Peter's held on for the win. Olivia Lewis pitched four strong innings in relief, allowing three runs while striking out two.

In the second game, Monmouth's offense was limited to five hits despite hard contact throughout the game. Clare Picone, Liv Smith, and Cadena each recorded a hit, but the Hawks were unable to push a run across against Saint Peter's starter Ava White, who went the distance.

Cadena pitched a complete game for Monmouth, scattering seven hits and allowing just three earned runs over seven innings.
