PRINCETON, NJ. – In a top-15 showdown, No. 13 Monmouth field hockey fell to No. 6 Princeton, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Bedford Field despite a hard-fought effort.

Lauren Relik, who was positioned at the top left of the cage and fired home Monmouth's first goal of the day.
The Hawks tried to build momentum from the goal with 10 minutes remaining, but Princeton responded just four minutes later when Caitlin Thompson sealed the win with her second goal of the game in the 54th minute.
Both defenses started strong, battling through a scoreless first quarter. Princeton's Beth Yeager broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a penalty corner. Yeager struck again in the 29th minute, once more off a penalty corner, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw limited chances until Ella Cashman found Molly Nye in the 44th minute to extend the Princeton lead to 3-0. Just one minute into the fourth, Yeager set up Thompson to make it 4-0 before Monmouth responded.
Despite the final score, Monmouth sophomore goalkeeper
Charlie Bowman turned in a standout performance, registering a career-high 15 saves in the cage.
