WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – No. 13 Monmouth field hockey secured its second shutout of the season, defeating William & Mary 4-0 Friday afternoon at Busch Field.
The Hawks were held scoreless in the first quarter but broke through in the second, when
Keely Bowers scored off a penalty corner in the 22nd minute. The goal was assisted by
Luisa Schlueter and
Eulalie Brouwers, putting Monmouth up 1-0.
Monmouth carried that momentum forward, with
Emily Singer slipping one through the William & Mary defense for her first goal of the day. Singer later notched a second goal—her career high—when Alicia Vanderlyed found her in stride in the 51st minute to close out the scoring.
Claire Campen also found the back of the net in the 43rd minute.
Goalkeeper
Charlie Bowman was steady in the cage, picking up her second career shutout with six saves.
Djoeke van Helsdingen entered for the final 11 minutes and did not face a shot.
While Monmouth had 29 shots on Friday, Alexandra de Jesus, the William & Mary goalkeeper finished with a game-high 15 saves.
