Hawks Fall to No. 9 Rutgers in Double Overtime

FINAL SCORE (2OT)
#9 Rutgers (2-0) – 3
Monmouth (2-1) – 2

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University Field Hockey Team took No. 9 Rutgers to double overtime but fell by a score of 3-2 at So Sweet A Cat Field on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Milla Frye converted on her second penalty stroke of the season late in the third quarter to cut the Scarlet Knight lead to one after Rutgers held a 2-0 advantage at halftime. Late in the fourth, Anna Moors netted her second goal of 2024 on a corner with assists from Calista Schwartz and Libby Doehner.

Both teams generated chances in the overtime periods, but goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin stood tall for the Hawks with five saves in the first frame. After Eiselin made her 10th stop of the contest a minute into the second overtime, Rutgers found the back of the net for the game-winner in the 72nd minute. Eiselin has now put up double-digit save performances in all three contests to start the season.
