PHILADELPHIA – The 20th-ranked Monmouth University Field Hockey team narrowly fell to Temple 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Howarth Field.

The Hawks took control in the third quarter with a goal by
Sofia Fouces. The penalty stroke tally at the 35:50 mark made the Argentina native the third Hawk to reach the five-goal mark this year. Monmouth's defense kept Temple at bay until a strong individual effort by Peyton Rieger equalized for the Owls early in the fourth at 46:02.

Monmouth quickly responded as
Johanna Karlhuber found the back of the net just over a minute later at 47:25 to restore the Hawks' lead. It's the first of the season for senior captain, however, the Owls spoiled the MU advantage on a penalty stroke of their own at 53:34, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, Temple applied heavy pressure taking seven shots, four of which were stopped by Monmouth goalkeeper
Jessie Eiselin. The Owls' fifth shot on net finally beat the sophomore, ending the game in the 68
th minute.

Monmouth had its opportunities, recording nine shots in the game, with two of those coming from Fouces. Eiselin made seven saves to keep Monmouth in the contest.
