WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University Field Hockey offense came alive as the Hawks cruised to a 5-0 victory over Rider on a sunny Friday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field. The win improves Monmouth's record to 4-1, tying their best start since 2021.
Monmouth wasted no time getting on the scoresheet, with midfielder
Libby Doehner scoring the opening goal just under seven minutes into the game. Doehner, assisted by
India Shakespeare, set the tone for an afternoon in which the Hawks never looked back with her first career tally.
The Hawks continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, as
Jess Tucker scored an unassisted goal at the 26:58 mark. Tucker wasn't done, as she netted another unassisted goal less than five minutes into the third quarter, giving Monmouth a commanding 3-0 lead.
Doehner added her second goal of the game shortly after, at the 34:50 mark, with Tucker providing the assist. Monmouth's final tally came in the fourth quarter when
Stella Goddard-Despot scored at the 50:40 mark, with an assist from
Lilly Ricks – her first career point.
Rider's goalkeeper Jade Regnart was tested early and often, making eight saves in the contest, but she couldn't slow down Monmouth's potent attack. Despite generating 12 shots, Rider couldn't find a way past Monmouth's defense, anchored by goalkeepers
Jessie Eiselin and
Charlie Bowman. Eiselin made five saves in her 45 minutes of action, earning the win to improve to 4-1 on the season, while Bowman saw her first collegiate action, finishing the final 15 minutes with two saves.
The win marks the 10
th consecutive victory for Monmouth over Rider.
