Â
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Monmouth University's Field Hockey team dominated Hofstra in a convincing 7-0 victoryÂ
on Friday afternoon at Cindy Lewis Stadium. The win lifted Monmouth's record to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
Â
Monmouth's offensive prowess was on full display, as the Hawks scored in every quarter. Sophomore forward
Milla Frye was a standout, netting two goals, including a slick backhanded shot in the first quarter and another late in the game after a skillful dribble into the arc and spin to score. Frye also contributed an assist, further highlighting her offensive impact.
Â
Senior midfielder
Sofia Fouces played a critical role in the win, recording a goal and assisting on two others. Her unassisted takeaway and score in the first quarter gave Monmouth an early 2-0 lead just 34 seconds after Frye's opener. Fouces' playmaking abilities were also key in setting up goals for
Emily Singer and
Lilly Ricks later in the contest.
Â
Jess Tucker and
Morgan Kato also found the back of the net for Monmouth. Tucker's give-and-go goal early in the second quarter pushed the Hawks' lead to 3-0. Kato's goal, tipped in off a shot from Frye in the third quarter, made it 5-0.
Â
The Hawks' defense was equally dominant, with goalkeepers
Jessie Eiselin and
Charlie Bowman combining for another shutout. Eiselin played the first half and made three saves, while Bowman preserved the clean sheet with one save in the second half. Hofstra managed 10 shots, four of which were on goal, but they were stifled by Monmouth's strong defensive effort.
