WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Softball Head Coach
Shannon Salsburg is moving on to pursue other opportunities and spend more time with her family.

"I want to thank Shannon for her work leading the Monmouth softball program over the past nine years," Director of Athletics Jen Sansevero said. "We appreciate what she has accomplished during her tenure at Monmouth, including three championship seasons. We wish her the best in the next phase of her personal and professional life."

Salsburg made an immediate impact in 2016, the first of her nine seasons with the Hawks. She led Monmouth to 29 victories – a 10-game improvement from the previous year – along with winning seasons in five of her first six seasons. Her 197 career wins rank second in school history, with five over high-major teams and 18 of them coming in CAA play over the last two years.

In 2018, just her third season at the helm in West Long Branch, she led Monmouth to its best conference record in program history with a 19-1 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play to capture the first of three consecutive regular season titles. Salsburg would lead the Hawks to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999 that same year. Monmouth qualified for back-to-back NCAA Tournaments after a 36-win season in 2019 and wins over Siena and Fairfield (twice) in the MAAC Championships. Her 36 wins that season were the most by a Hawks team since 1995.
A two-time MAAC Coach of the Year, Salsburg oversaw teams that set single-season program records in home runs (41, 2016), innings pitched (381.0, 2017), and strikeouts (314, 2017).

During her tenure, Salsburg coached twenty-six Hawks to All-Conference Teams and six All-Rookie Teams, with the most recent being
Mackenzie Bloss in 2023. For major awards, Amanda Riley and Alyssa Irons repeated as MAAC Pitcher of the Year in 2018 and 2019, while Lindsey Baron was named MAAC Rookie of the Year in 2019. Salsburg was at Monmouth for the program's first NFCA All-Region player (Katie Baron, 2018) since 2008, while Riley, Irons, and Lindsey Baron each were named All-Region. In addition, four Hawks have received Academic All-District recognition during.

Monmouth won 18 contests in 2024, with a number of Hawks putting up career highs and high-ranking individual marks. Senior catcher
Abby Warner led the nation in runners caught stealing for the second time in her career with 22.
Savannah Simons (.323) and
Dani Dabroski (.307) led the offense in batting average, with Dabroski finishing as the conference's runner-up with 24 stolen bases. In the pitching circle, the season was highlighted by junior
Billie Kerwood finishing third in the CAA racking up 167 strikeouts – a new career high – as she moved into fourth all-time at Monmouth with 459 career punchouts, while
Ana Rodriguez threw a no-hitter at home versus Towson on April 20. First baseman and senior
Devin Coia finished with the conference's seventh-best fielding percentage at .993. In the classroom, the softball program put up a cumulative 3.24 GPA.
