WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Cait Wetmore, Head Coach of the Monmouth University Women's Basketball Team, has announced the addition of Aja Boyd as an assistant coach. Boyd comes to West Long Branch from UNC Charlotte, where she served as the Director of Player Development.
"I am very excited for Aja to join me at Monmouth," Wetmore said. "I have had the privilege of watching her grow from a tremendous player to an up-and-coming coach. She is a hard worker who is committed to creating a positive experience for our student-athletes."
Boyd was promoted from graduate assistant to Director of Player Development in June 2023 and helped lead the 49ers to 28 wins across two seasons. Alongside Wetmore, Boyd played a key role in game planning and preparation, as well as assisting with recruiting, community outreach, and team branding during the program's transition from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference last year. UNC Charlotte won nine conference games in its first season in the AAC and added a 69-58 victory at high-major Wake Forest on December 7.
Boyd played under Wetmore at UNC Greensboro where she was a team captain selected to the SoCon Second Team and named the conference's Ann Lashley Inspiration Award recipient in 2022. Under Wetmore's guidance, Boyd finished second on the team in scoring (9.6 points per game) and rebounding (6.6 per game), where she shined as the conference's third-best offensive rebounder at 2.9 per contest. She began her career at LIU Brooklyn, where she was named to the All-NEC Rookie Team in 2016-17.
A Petersburg, Va. native, Boyd earned her bachelor's degree in English in 2020 and finished a master's degree in Applied Arts and Sciences at UNC Greensboro in 2022.
