BOSTON, Mass. – Monmouth women's basketball erased a 17-point first-quarter deficit and clawed back into the game, but ultimately fell 72-67 to Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.

The Hawks (10-5, 3-1 CAA) held the Huskies to just 13 points in both the second and third quarters and briefly took the lead midway through the third, but Northeastern (5-9, 1-3 CAA) closed strong in the final period to secure the victory.

GiGi Gamble and Alexis Andrews led Monmouth with 16 points apiece. Gamble knocked down four three-pointers, while Andrews went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Divine Dibula and Kathy Kersaint added 10 points each, with Dibula also pulling down five rebounds.

After a slow start saw Northeastern jump out to a 23-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, Monmouth responded with a dominant second period. The Hawks outscored the Huskies 24-13, forcing 10 turnovers and cutting the deficit to just four at halftime.

Monmouth carried that momentum into the third quarter, opening the half on a 10-4 run to briefly take a 40-38 lead following a three-pointer from Gamble. The Hawks and Huskies traded baskets throughout the quarter before Northeastern held a narrow 49-48 edge heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Hawks remained within striking distance throughout the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to three in the final minutes, but Northeastern converted from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the outcome.
