WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The NCAA released the annual Graduation Success Rate Data and the Monmouth University Athletics Department achieved a score of 90 or higher for the fourth time in the last five years.
Overall, Monmouth's GSR score of 90 is based on the four entering classes from 2014-18.
Monmouth student-athletes gradated at a higher four-class rate than the general student population. Monmouth's women's sports registered a combined 96% GSR. The men's and women's basketball programs both registered a perfect 100% GSR.
Developed by NCAA presidents, Graduation Success Rate is understood to be a more flexible and inclusive measurement of academic persistence, as it accounts for graduation occurring within six years of initial entry, as well as accounting for transfers in and out of the university, while removing those who did not receive athletics aid during their initial year of enrollment. Student-athletes who depart their institution academically eligible to compete are removed from the calculation. Conversely, student-athletes who depart their institution ineligible to compete are considered nongraduates, despite perhaps being known to have immediately transferred to another institution. GSR is considered to lead to a graduation rate that better approximates a true student-centered graduation rate.
