Monmouth University Athletics Earns Record APR, Six Programs Post Perfect Multiyear Scores

May 05, 2026

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ. -Six Monmouth University programs were recognized by the NCAA for perfect multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, as the university also achieved its highest single-year APR in the latest release.

"Last year's APR of 992 is a tremendous feat, and everyone in the department played such an important role in this accomplishment," said Robert Woodcock senior associate AD for NCAA Compliance. "Tom Bieber and Eli Fisher in the Academic Resource Center do a tremendous job working directly with our student-athletes, and we are fortunate to have some of the best coaches in the nation when it comes to recruiting individuals who believe in a culture of athletic ambition and academic success working in tandem. Our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators should all be proud of being part of Monmouth Athletics' highest APR on record."

Bowling, men's basketball, men's golf, softball, women's golf and women's lacrosse had perfect four-year APR scores for data based on the 2021-25 academic years.

Eighteen programs earned perfect 1000 single-year APR scores for the 2024-25 academic year: Baseball, bowling, field hockey, men's basketball, men's golf, men's cross country, men's lacrosse, men's swimming, men's track, rowing, softball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, women's tennis and women's track.

Since the current structure was implemented in 2011, Monmouth has never been subjected to any penalties.

The NCAA annually honors teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. The announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year, based on the eligibility, graduation and retention of each scholarship student-athlete. Rates are based on the past four years' performance. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.

Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.

A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team's Academic Progress Rate.

In addition to a team's current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.
