Milla Frye, 2024 CAA Field Hockey Rookie of the Year

Monmouth’s Milla Frye Headlines Postseason CAA Field Hockey Awards

November 07, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman midfielder Milla Frye was named the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Rookie of the Year and was one of six Monmouth University student-athletes to be honored by the league in its postseason awards announcement Thursday afternoon.

The Hawks have representation on all three all-conference teams, with Frye earning a spot on both the All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Rookie Team. Sofia Fouces, Anna Moors, and Jess Tucker each made the First Team, while freshmen Claire Campen and Lilly Ricks joined Frye on the All-Rookie Team.

Frye, a starter in all 17 games, was one of Monmouth's top offensive weapons from start to finish during the regular season. Frye's eight goals were most among freshman in the CAA and ranked third on the Monmouth roster. The German's best game came in the 7-0 victory at Hofstra on Sept. 20, where she tallied five points on two goals – the first a game-winner – and an assist. Her other two-goal performance came in the 6-1 home win over LIU on Oct. 27.

Seniors Fouces and Tucker each made their second consecutive All-CAA First Team. Fouces put together another great year scoring seven goals and adding four assists. Winner of last season's CAA Offensive Player of the Year, Fouces garnered heavy attention from opposing defenses and still led the Hawks with 71 shot attempts – 27 more than any other Monmouth player. Tucker enters the postseason as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week – an honor she claimed twice during the season. The New Zealand native led the Hawks with a career-high 25 points on nine goals and seven assists, with her first career hat trick coming in Friday's 10-1 win over William & Mary. Moors also scored a hat trick versus the Tribe and was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore makes her first All-CAA First Team after earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team a year ago. Moors led Monmouth with 11 goals during the regular season – a mark that ranked tied for the league lead.

Campen and Ricks shined as impact freshman for Head Coach Carli Figlio. The two combined for a total of 30 starts throughout the regular season and each have showed their fair share of offensive prowess. Four of Campen's 13 shots on goal found the back of the cage, while Ricks provided four goals and a pair of assists of her own. Ricks most notably scored the game-sealing shootout goal in the victory over VCU on Sept. 2.

The fourth-seeded Hawks begin their quest for the CAA Championship Friday, Nov. 8 as they take on top-seeded Drexel at 12 p.m. in the CAA Semifinals. The Dragons, who are playing as the tournament's host, are ranked 17th nationally and won the matchup versus Monmouth this season, 2-1. The game will be broadcast live from Philadelphia on FloSports.
