Monmouth Sets Multiple Program Records in 10-1 Win over Tribe

William & Mary (2-15, 1-5 CAA) – 1

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University Field Hockey team closed out its regular season with a commanding 10-1 victory over William & Mary at So Sweet A Cat Field to clinch a spot in the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Championships.

With 10 goals, the Hawks tie a program record for most goals in a single game. It was the first time since putting up double digits on LIU Brooklyn in 2018 and the fourth time overall.

Monmouth wasted no time establishing their dominance, scoring two goals in the first quarter. Anna Moors opened the scoring at 5:01 off a well-executed penalty corner, assisted by Calista Schwartz and Libby Doehner. Minutes later, freshman Lauren Relik extended the lead with her first goal of the season, assisted by senior captain Johanna Karlhuber, putting Monmouth up 2-0.

The second quarter saw the Hawks continue their offensive surge. Moors added her second goal at 20:22 with another assist from Schwartz, who would finish with an impressive five assists – the most ever by a Hawk in a single contest. Less than a minute later, senior Jess Tucker joined the scoring spree, finishing a pass from India Shakespeare to give Monmouth a 4-0 lead. William & Mary managed to get on the board at 28:49, but Monmouth carried a comfortable 4-1 lead into halftime.

The Hawks' offense exploded again in the second half. In the third quarter, Lilly Ricks scored her third goal of the season off an assist from fellow freshman Milla Frye. Tucker and Moors both completed hat tricks by the fourth quarter, with Tucker's third goal was batted out of mid-air coming off a pass from Hannah Tromble at 58:24. It marks the first time in program history two players have scored thrice in a game. Doehner also contributed to the scoreline, with an unassisted goal to make it 7-1.

Monmouth's defense, anchored by goalkeepers Jessie Eiselin and Charlie Bowman, limited the Tribe to just seven shots. Meanwhile, Monmouth generated 28 shots for the second straight game and 12 penalty corners, showcasing their offensive depth and set-piece efficiency.
